VARKEY FOUNDATION IN GAMBAGA COLLEGE OF EDUCATION

The Varkey foundation, a global charitable foundation focused on improving the standards of education for underprivileged children, on the 15th of October 2018 successfully installed their equipment at Gambaga College of Education (GACoE) as part of the preparations towards the college participating in the Train for Tomorrow (T4T) project. The team, led by Mr. Frank Asante (Technical Officer – Varkey) was met on arrival by Mr. Alhassan Nantomah Sandow (Principal), Mr. Abdulai Yakubu (College Secretary), Mr. Abdul-Ganiu Alhassan (HOD- Science and College facilitator – Varkey) and Mr. Osman Kasimu (HOD-Mathematics and College facilitator – Varkey). Gambaga College of Education, which is a ‘hub’ school for the Varkey T4T project was provided with solar powered and satellite-enabled video-link equipment. The project will train school leaders to become Instructional Leaders first through face-to-face training, and then through a distance-learning cascade, that will be made possible by the satellite link and solar-powered infrastructure.

T4T aims to improve teaching practice through regular interactive, activity-based training sessions, to develop teachers’ pedagogical methods and subject knowledge; to create more positive classroom environments; and to support the development of a more accountable monitoring system of teaching quality.
